F I N I S H E D ! ! !
I ' v e F i n i s h e d ! ! !

Almost 1 year since we first thought about buying and building a conservatory, I've finished! It's taken way longer than I thought it would and cost far more too, but the job's now done!

Okay, so I still have a huge pile of rubble on the lawn and boulders in the corner, but other than that.

Testing times ...
Over the w/e of 29/30 Jan, I did some paint testing, then after we'd decided what we liked, got on and did the walls and ceiling. The ceiling was done in matt white, and the walls in 'Labrador Sands' - a kind of stone colour (far left option of the paint test pic below).

I also attached a small electric radiator and spent a few hours on my hands and knees, trying to clean the floor tiles!

I'll try and get the skirting board painted during the week, then fix the windows sill next weekend and it's job finished! (well, apart from the several mounds of brick and hardocre in the garden - time to get another skip me thinks).

Skirting the issue...
Today I cut and fixed the skirting board. This was one of the easier jobs, though it still needs a bit of filler for the corners and small gaps at the bottom.

The bricks are holding the skirting board in place, while the 'no nails' glue does it's work. I've also re-attached all the electics.

Next stop is painting! Then just the window sill to go and I'm home and dry!!

Getting there...
Well, it's been nearly 5 months since my last update! The same perdiod of time that it took me to get 90% of the conservatory built. So what's happened in the last 5 months? Well, very little conservatory wise! I've been cycling in China, which was fab, but I've really been taking it very slowly finishing off the project. The old 80 / 20 rule seems to be alive and well - 80% of the effort, to finish the last 20% of the job!

However, I didn't stop completely after my last blog update, so heres a little of what has happened... In September, I stuck up the plaster board on the Dwarf walls. I also took a spur off a socket in the dinning room, and drilled through to the conservatory to add a socket there (below right pic). I then took a fused spur for lights in the ceiling, before putting up the plaster board on the internal walls.

That was all before China. After my cycle trip, I didn't really do any more until January, when it was time to try my hand at plastering! Having never done this before, I was a bit worried I'd make a complete pigs ear of it. And I almost have!! I just put the final skim up today, and there's quite a bit of sanding to be done to finish it all off. I've already started the process of filling the small holes & imperfections.

Oh and we also had, at great expense, a clear cat flap put into one of the double doors (below right pic again). This involved a company making up a completely new double glazed panel, with a whole for the cat flap, then coming round to swap the existing panel for the one with the cat flap.

Still to do is the sanding, more filling, the skirting board, painting and finally, the window sill. Keep tuned for more progress...
