Stage 1
|
 |
The site of the conservatory
was a 1970's concrete patio area, over 1ft thick concrete in places!
This all had to be broken up
and moved aside (to be used later for the hardcore in-fill).
To break up the concrete, I
used an elcetric 'Kanga' drill.

Stage 2 |
|
 |
After moving all the rubble
and additionaly some earth and grass to extenbd the site, the level of
the site has to be taken down even further.
This will be the level where
the rubble and hardcore will be put and it's roughly 35cm below the level
of the house Damp Proof Course (DPC)

Stage 3 |
|
 |
The footings have to go down
75cm from the house DPC - thats an additional 40cm lower than the level
of the site in stage 2.
The footings need to be 60cm
wide, so that's a lot of earth to shift.

Stage 4 |

Stage 4 is where
the footings are filled with the concrete that will be the conservatory
foundations. |

Stage 5 |

 |
Now we build a four
course wall, with a 50mm cavity between the inner and outer walls. The inner
wall will be breeze block as it will not show when the conservatory is finished. |

Stage 6 |
|
 |
The next stage is to fill in
the area with rubble hardcore, sand, Damp Proof Membrane (DPM), insulation
and finally, concrete.
This will bring the site to
the level of the house DPC (also the house floor level). Once complete,
we can put our tiles direct onto the concrete.

Stage 7 |
|
 |
We are going to get someone
in to build the remaining 7 courses required for the dwarf wall - remembering
to leave space for the double doors of course!
The inner wall will again be
breeze block as it's going to be plastered when finished.

Stage 8 |
|
 |
A DIY job will then be required
to fill in the gap between the house and where the conservatory starts.
This will be filled in with
a wooden frame and a PVC outer cover. I'll fill the frame with insulation
and plasterboard the inside.

Stage 9 |
|

Finally we can build the conservatory!
This will hopefully be the easy part. Famous last words!!
