This was something of a sight seeing day, taking in Iceland's 'Golden circle' of tourist attractions. Approximately 20 miles east of laugarvatn is Geyser, location of the world famous hot spring after which all other Geyser's take their name.

Early in the 20th century, tourists attempted to coerce Geyser into erupting on demand by throwing in rocks and dirt. This resulted in Geyser ceasing to erupt completely, leaving only it's neighbour Stokkur ('the butter churn') to shoot steaming hot water 20 meters into the sky, every few minutes.

Some 6 miles further east of Geyser are Iceland's most powerful waterfalls. The Gullfoss falls, lying on river Hvítá aren't on the scale of Niagara, but are pretty impressive none the less.

In the afternoon we headed back west, cycling on more unmade roads to Reykholt hostel.
