It had to happen eventually and after 8 days of fine weather, along came the rain. We were told in Reykjavik that in Iceland, to get 3 days of stable weather in a row is a miracle, so we counted ourselves lucky with what we'd had to date.
Today should have been the longest days ride, but with the rain lashing down, we gave in to temptation and took the bus from Vik to Kirkjubaejarklaustur. This left only 20 miles to cycle to Hvoll hostel. The terrain east of Vik is made up entirely of lava flows. Over the years algae and lichen have covered the volcanic rock to create a most bizarre looking landscape. |
