…for they have steep sides! Today will be about 1 thing and 1 thing only; Hills! Lots of them!
It’s very undulating heading out from Liskeard and I’m forced to don my raincoat as a thick drizzle descends. A couple of wrong turns are soon rectified after consulting the GPS and I’m in Tavistock for a freshly baked Cornish Pasty, well before 10:00.
The climb out of Tavistock onto Dartmoor seems vertical at times and goes on forever. Once on top though, the going gets easier and the scenery is rugged and spectacular. The afternoon brightens up as the sun comes out and I begin an awesome descent off the Moor into Mortenhampstead. It’s then up and down again all the way into Exeter. For some reason I have a hard time finding the city centre and not for the first time today, have to resort to the GPS. I stop for an ice cream outside the cathedral, as the hostel wont open untill 17:00.
Wine with my evening meal is possibly a bad idea as I’m starting to feel tired and it’s only 19:30. Then again, is wine ever really a bad idea?.
Tomorrow should have considerably fewer hills and take me to Street near Glastonbury.
