Finding my way out of Edinburgh with blurry eyes at 0745 was never going to be easy, but the task's made twice as difficult by some plonker who saw fit to sanction the digging up of Princes street in an effort to install a 21st century tram system.
Once I do escape, I have an awesome ride over the Forth road bridge, with fantastic views of the rail bridge to the right. I then track the M90 on various B roads heading for Perth. G’day mate, me sheila’s out back in the dunny with a couple a tinny’s! [ed; no, not that Perth!]
I join the A9 for a while, before exiting at Bankfoot, looking for a spot where I can get stuck into my lunch. A suitable location presents itself in way of a stone memorial atop a small hill.
After lunch I officially enter the Scottish Highlands as I first track, then re-join the A9. The afternoon is still young and the sun shining as I enter the small village of Dunkeld, so decide to take a short detour and visit the awesome cathedral & ruins there. These are well worth a look if you’re in this neck of the woods.
Another handful of miles on the A9 and I arrive at the day’s final destination, Pitlochry. All in all, not a bad day clocking in at a shade over 73 miles.
Tomorrow should be the last of the big ones at around the 85 mile mark, so a nice early start and hopefully lunch at Aviemore, then on to Inverness and beyond the infinite!
